Usher Rejects ‘Mr. Steal Your Girl’ Title Despite Las Vegas Drama: ‘That’s Trey Songz’

Usher has set the record straight about his intentions regardless of the reputation he has earned over the years, especially from his ongoing Las Vegas residency.

On Tuesday (September 27), the veteran singer called into the Breakfast Club for a brief chat following the announcement of his recently confirmed Super Bowl gig next year.

When DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God brought up the Texas native’s habit of serenading women in front of their partners during his concerts, referring to him as “Mr. Steal Your Girl,” Usher shut down the allegations immediately.

“I’m not ‘Mr. Steal Your Girl,’” he clarified. “That’s Trey Songz. I’m the guy who tells you, ‘don’t leave your girl around me.’ So you should come with your girl.”

Check out the hilarious explanation at the 10:28 mark below:

When the 44-year-old vocalist was asked if he felt guilty about stirring up drama because of his antics, he made it clear that his only motive is to put on a great performance.

“What would the guilt be? That I actually had a great show?” he responded.

Several incidents in recent months led to the Breakfast Club team naming Usher the “Domestic Terrorist.” Most notably, Keke Palmer made headlines earlier this year while attending the R&B icon’s residency in Las Vegas. The Nope star had a night to remember in early July when the 44-year-old sang to her during a performance of “There Goes My Baby.”

A steamy clip of the interaction showed Keke wearing a see-through black lace dress and under garment as she hugged and danced next to Usher, who had ventured into the audience to woo the actress.

As the footage went viral on social media, her boyfriend, Darius Jackson, took to Twitter to share his not-so-impressed reaction to her wardrobe choice.

“It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom,” he posted soon after the clip began making the rounds online.

After facing blowback for critiquing the mother of his child, Jackson double-downed on his line of thinking.

“We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is,” he wrote. “This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe. I rest my case.”

The following month, Palmer poked fun at the drama between her and Jackson in the music video for her collaboration with Usher, “Boyfriend.” In addition to plenty of early ’00s nostalgia, the visual package contained numerous references to their recent relationship trouble.
