On this date in 1998, after her profitable intro into the sport with The Fugees, Lauryn Hill launched into her solo journey and launched her first solo LP entitled The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill on the Ruffhouse/Columbia imprint.
As a play on the titles of Carter G. Woodson’s The Mis-Schooling of the Negro and the 1972 movie The Schooling Of Sonny Carson, Lauryn Hill’s Miseducation album fused the sounds of neo-soul, reggae, R&B and Hip Hop to create an album in contrast to something just like that which was created throughout the “bling” period. The 16 observe traditional was a mainstream hit, primarily due to the cross over attraction of singles like “All the pieces Is All the pieces”, “Doo Wop(That Factor}”, Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” and “Ex-Issue”, with manufacturing courtesy of Ms, Hill herself.
