J. Cole explored his relationship with Kendrick Lamar on the newest episode of the Inevitable podcast.

Cole and Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad revealed their response to Good Child, M.A.A.D Metropolis after listening to singles earlier than the discharge in a studio session.

“When Kendrick’s album dropped, the journey acquired tougher, the mountain acquired steeper,” Cole mentioned. “As a result of just like when [So Far Gone] dropped, the place it was like, ‘Oh sh—t, there’s one other individual on the market that has the identical ambitions as me,’ it occurred like that with Kendrick.”

He added, “It was a sense of surpassment. It was two indicators that informed me. His first-week numbers had been greater than mine. The opposite factor was we had a present the place we had been each on the identical lineup… and I went earlier than him and he went after me.”

Cole would play two unreleased collaborations with Lamar, dropping off “Shock the World” and “Temptation,” which may be heard right here.
