50 Cent has praised Ed Sheeran for his acoustic cover of “In Da Club” — but his fans beg to differ.
The British pop star opened up for John Mayer at his Heart and Armor Foundation concert in Los Angeles on Tuesday (September 19), where he delved into a series of folk covers during his set — one of which included 50’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ anthem.
The Queens, New York legend gave his stamp of approval to the guitar-driven rendition of his party-starting tune by reposting a video of Sheeran’s performance to his Instagram.
“Ed Sheeran right now in LA at the John Mayer concert Killing shit ! BOOM,” he wrote in the caption.
50’s Final Lap tour mate Busta Rhymes was also impressed by what he heard as he left a series of fire emojis in the comments section.

50 Cent and Busta Rhymes were in the minority, though, as many of 50’s followers trashed Ed Sheeran for “butchering” a Hip Hop classic.
“You should sue him like Marvin Gay estate for this horrendous act,” one outraged fan commented, while another wrote: “Cool tribute and all but this version is ass this could’ve been so much better.”
Others couldn’t help but to question 50’s taste for praising Ed’s cover, with one person writing: “You need to clean your ears out, 50. This is awful!”
That sentiment was shared by another user, who wrote: “Tbh that was whack 50. Totally killed your track right off.”

Despite his fans’ strong feelings, 50 Cent and Ed Sheeran have a relationship dating back a few years as they joined forces on the 2019 song “Remember the Name” alongside Eminem.
Sheeran, who is one of Britain’s best-selling acts and among the top 10 most streamed artists on Spotify, later admitted that he thought 50 Cent had no idea who he was when they teamed up to do the track.
“If you were to go into my school and go, at the height of Shady Records, at the height of Aftermath [Entertainment], and go, ‘Which one of these kids is gonna do a song with Eminem and 50 Cent?’ No one would’ve guessed me,” he joked during an appearance on Hot Ones.
“50 will probably disagree with this, [but] I don’t think 50 had a fucking clue who I was. I think afterward he was like, ‘Oh, the ‘Shape of You’ guy!’”
